BE CALM AND VIP

Mixed media on cardboard. 2014

I saw vinyl lettering "I'll buy Obama's skin (pay a lot)" and wanted to take a photograph of it, but stopped myself and resumed to surfing between Maybachs.

The project started from my nomad period. Intensive home movings inside of Moscow, changes of hotels, flats, houses resulted in creation of artworks named by city streets and lanes, countryside areas and particular buildings. I simultaneously played with a concept of bourgeoisie art with its commissioned works and loyalty to personal tastes and also with a role of a 'genius loci'.

The idea of mixing international view with its radical level of abstraction and surfaces of Byzantine icons born out of Moscow trendiness, new wave of startups and some kind of patriotic feeling between youngsters. For contemporary painting's sake.
